OUR CLUB HISTORY:
The Lions Club of Menai was
chartered in 1982, so in 2002 we celebrated our 20th Anniversary.
During these 20 years, our club has supported our local community by
·
sponsoring
projects within the community, by assisting the needy both financially as well
as simply giving a helping hand by a few lions for a few hours.
·
sponsoring
awards for local primary and secondary schools each year to recognise youth
excellence
·
fostering the
Lions ?Youth of the Year? competition each year within the local community with
great success coming from some great young local Australians.
·
recognising
the elderly and frail in our community by bringing them together at Christmas
time each year to enjoy some Christmas cheer. Our guests come from local nursing
homes as well as those seniors who were district pioneers and still live at
home.
·
assisting the
community in times of devastation particularly those caused by local bushfires
Our club has received the Premiers award for community service resulting from our
contribution to the community in the 1994 Bush Fires in our area of NSW and
contributions to local bush fire brigade units continue.
To
fundraise, we have run huge local events, cooked an unknown large quantity of
sausages, sold thousands and thousands of raffle tickets, we have supported the
openings of bridges and freeways and we have helped so many individuals and
groups along the way.
Importantly, we have enjoyed the experience, the fellowship and the fun.
MENAI AREA INFORMATION:
Our
club is based in the South South/Western area of the Sydney metropolitan area,
yet only some 50mins to the Sydney CBD. The local population is approx 34,000,
and includes Menai, Illawong, Alfords Point, Barden Ridge and Woronora.

We
belong of the Sutherland Shire which encompasses other suburbs such as Cronulla,
Miranda, Kirrawee, Jannali, Caringbah, Sutherland, Engadine, Heathcote, Loftus,
Gymea, Como, to just name a few. To the north, Bankstown is only 10 minutes
away and to the east, Sutherland is only 10 minutes away over the newly built
Woronora bridge. Our club was a key player in the organisation and
implementation of the bridge opening and bridge walk celebrations which raised
over $60,000 for shire charities in 2000
We are definitely the only club in Australia, and maybe beyond, who have a Nuclear Reactor on the fringe of our area.

IN APPRECIATION

The Lions Club of Menai wishes to thank the Lions of
Turkey (MD118) for the provision of Lionwap to the Lions Community at large.
Their initiative makes possible sites such as ours and allows all funds raised
by our club through the community to go back to the areas of most need in the
community. In appreciation, we have the Turkish flag on out site.
We are also very grateful to the members of the Lions
Club of Ekibin, Brisbane Australia for their assistance in setting up our
site. Their care for their community, along with the support given to so many
other Lions Clubs is well recognized. Thank you.
If you too require assistance with your web site, click on the Ekibin bannerette and leave a message on their guest book,
